AFI WUR THESIS

Fieldwork in will focus on assessing fish, macrofauna and zooplankton communities of 3 secondary channels in particular. It is our mission to be leading in academic research and education on sustainable Aquaculture and Fisheries, with a focus on society relevant questions and on the interactions between aquatic organisms and their environment. For more information, see link Ecomorphological analysis of the pharyngeal jaw apparatus of cyprinid fish in relation to aquatic food types. This research aims at improving resource-use efficiency of Nile tilapia production. Internship opportunities at Solidaridad 16 May

MSc Information BSc information. Fieldwork in will focus on assessing fish, macrofauna and zooplankton communities of 3 secondary channels in particular. Two of the other topics are plant-based feeds and ‘balanced harvesting’. The aim of the Small Fish for Food project is to obtain a quantified view on the flows from fisher to consumer of small fish in Ghana, Uganda, Kenya and possibly Tanzania by making a mass balance of production and trade flows. Will a broad application of the nutritious pond concept reduce the number of farm’ households that lose their shrimp-based livelihood and thus the basis of their food security, in the coastal provinces of the Mekong delta?

To meet these increased demands, while safeguarding environmental sustainability, we need innovations that use principles of animal biology and ecology and build on the potential of aquatic ecosystems. Does the diversity of species of fish in a community reflect the functional diversity, or are they not directly linked? We are interested in determining whether an optimal dietary protein-to-energy ratio can be found for Nile tilapia.
