Teachers are to be present during the contest to act as proctors. These students have had fewer than contact hours of Russian instruction in college. Students and teachers will be asked to sign a statement certifying that the essays were written by the students without the help of any other person. See below for the criteria. No refunds are available for students who do not show up for the essay contest. Content in the body of an email will not be uploaded to Box. Submissions should be emailed as attachments with no text in the body of the email.

All students whose essays receive Gold, Silver, Bronze, or Honorable Mention will receive certificates. Instructors at an institution with at least one current ACTR member, with paid dues, are qualified to register students.

These students did not have any formal instruction in Russian before college. Students write essays in Russian on a topic announced at the beginning of a two-hour period during the week before Thanksgiving.
